Welcome To The New-Look Alma
Review of The Alma in Explorer Magazine
The Alma is a city pub in an enviable location. It’s in a residential area on Russell Court, off Panton Street, which is close to Hills Road, Trumpington Road and the Botanic Garden, and is near to many university departments and workplaces. The Alma has rapidly become a real part of the community once again, with a proper neighbourhood feel, and plenty of reasons to pay it a visit.
The Alma is a place of wooden floors and vintage beer barrels, with a variety of different seating areas, and old brewery memorabilia on the walls. Also very evident around the pub are pictures of rugby greats, and some memorable sporting quotes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Alma has become the place to watch rugby, showing every major rugby match including the Autumn internationals, Heineken Cup games, the Guinness Premiership and the Six Nations clashes on the HD/3D screens dotted around the pub.
As well as being a sporting venue, The Alma is set to be a destination for music, putting on regular live bands, generally in the funk, jazz and world music brackets. Alongside all this entertainment is a fine selection of good pub food, with pies, curries, and fish & chips. Add in a regular quiz night(thurs), a selection of 6 real ales, free wifi, and a Christmas party menu • what are you waiting for? The Alma has to be worth a try. Try... get it?
